| Immanuel Church History |
"…Let the house of God be rebuilt on its site." Ezra 5:15 Rooted... In the Spring of 1857, the Rev. August Huelster, a twenty-one year old minister of the Evangelical Association, passed through this area and found several unattended German families. On April 2, 1857 he conducted a Good Friday service for them, and also baptized four children. Thus began the life of Immanuel. Early in 1861, the charter members were received to form a new congregation, and in 1864 a log church building was raised to house the small, but proud congregation. That building was in Maple Grove, east of the present site. In 1874, the log church was given up for a frame building at the present location in Corcoran township. That served the congregation until 1937, when it was replaced with one of tile and brick. ...and Growing To meet growing needs, the fellowship hall was built in 1958, and in 1980 the current sanctuary added. In 2004, Immanuel made a significant investment in the future, adding a beautiful new education and office wing. In 1986, the congregation celebrated 125 years as a church family. At that time, we buried a time capsule to be opened in another 125 years as an expression of our intent to continue our worship work, service and play at this location. With God’s continued blessing it will be done. Immanuel is Rooted and Growing! |
