2008-2009 Job Description
Position Statement:  To contribute to the worship experience of Immanuel United Methodist Church
as Music Leader in offering public worship of God.   This position requires that the Music Leader
have keyboard and/or piano experience.  A minimum of five hours per week is required.

Duties:

•        Recruit volunteer musicians and/or vocalists from within/and or outside the congregation for a
praise group to provide music leadership for our 11:00 a.m. Contemporary Worship Service.

•        Plan worship music to be performed by the praise group during Sunday worship in coordination
with the Worship Committee and Pastor.  Additional music will be provided for special worship
services such as Christmas and Lenten/Easter season.
 (Any secular music will need to be used
carefully to ensure that there is no confusion that we are worshipping God.  The Pastor has the final
decision whether or not a particular piece of music is appropriate for Immanuel UMC worship.)

•        Purchase music as needed in keeping with the annual music budget.

•        Plan and lead rehearsals of the praise group.  (Rehearsals need to be scheduled on Monday
or Wednesday evenings.)

•        Provide the Pastor and church administrator with the titles of the music, etc. that will be included
in Sunday worship by the Thursday before the service.

•        Meet monthly with the Worship Committee and Pastor to coordinate thematic worship
experience.

•        Coordinate with choir director and organist/pianist from the Traditional Worship Service in an
occasional group effort.

Special Considerations:

Confidentiality is important in the church environment.  Even basic information, like who comes to see
the Pastor, could be an issue of confidentiality.  All staff persons will maintain strict confidentiality over
all information he/she becomes aware relative to other operations or persons in the church.

Any concerns that the staff person has regarding working conditions can be directed to the Staff
Parish Relations Committee or the Pastor.  Such concerns will not be discussed in the congregation
at large.
